The Cornish-Cuban band Kewbanda will perform their own songs from the ‘The Cornish in the Caribbean’ project, which tell the stories of incredible Cornish men and women who went out to the Caribbean in the days of exploration and settlement, going back over 400 years. These true tales cover gold and copper mining, dangerous voyages, slavery resistance, romance, camels, yellow fever and much more. They will take you from Cornwall to Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, and many other parts of the West Indies.
Sue Appleby, the author of the ‘The Cornish in the Caribbean’ book, which was the catalyst of the project, will also be present for discussions. These stories have not been heard in Cornwall, before this project!
