Paul’s career as an automata maker (“making mechanical jokes for people with short attention spans”) has included commissions for the Science Museum and Louis Vuitton, as well as a television programme, Mechanisms, on Channel 4. His work combines humour and an obsessive attention to detail with delightful and intriguing mechanisms. Every now and then, he puts together a dossier on his career so far and shows it to a group of people hoping that somebody will be able to spot any kind of progress or system. The last time this happened at The Poly was about eight years ago. Let’s have another try.

The Crows’ inexhaustible energy gives them stand alone status in the insurgent live music scene, boasting fiery fiddle playing, trumpet, guitar, drums, bass and vocals. Completely unique and uncontainable, their original Celtic vibe also draws influences from jazz, ska, folk, kleizmer and blues to create an unbridled festival sound; Crow ‘n’ Roll. 2011 has seen the Crows take their original live performance to some of the top venues and festivals across the UK, including Celtic Connections (Glasgow), the Celtic Festival of Wales, Wychwood Festival (Cheltenham), HMV Institute (Birmingham) and The Troubadour (London). “Just pure musical energy. Tight rhythms, great on-stage personality” (Andrew Marston, BBC).
