The Poly, 19th - 25th July
The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society Members' Summer Exhibition has been an integral part of the society since it was established in 1833 and we are excited to announce its return this year!
It sees the Poly filled with members' artwork for a week long celebration of local creativity and talent. The exhibition features large scale paintings, illustrations, prints, vibrant textiles and three dimensional works including wood-turning and ceramics.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday 19th July to Saturday 23rd July from 10am-5pm and includes a diverse selection of fresh and exciting work from a variety of talented artists across a range of disciplines.
Inspiration has been drawn from many sources including local surroundings, from the shores of the north coast to Falmouth Docks.
Spring Gallery, 26th July – 1st August
Opening 6.30pm - 8.30pm, Tuesday 26th July
An exhibition of contemporary prints, paintings and 3D, made by four local creative practitioners.
Paul Ziemacki
These works are from the ‘Secondhandmade’ series, where fragments of handwriting taken from postcards that were sent in Cornwall during the early twentieth century are combined with my own ‘painterly handwriting’.
Jane Ziemacki
A series of mixed media mono-prints that use drawing and relief printing that are based on figures found in newspapers and magazines. The figures are placed into environments or situations to give them a new narrative. Elements are added or taken away to emphasise the developing story. The faceless figures give a sense of ambiguity, mystery and suggestion. The relationships between the figures and the events that may have occurred are very much left to the interpretation of the viewer.
Jon Humphris
A series of work exploring the anthropomorphic nature of various objects/forms, though made by traditional craft methods, are no longer objects of utility.
Becky Haughton
Becky makes drawings and prints from personal and found photographs. Having made traditional etchings with acid over the last ten years, her recent practice has included digital drawing and photo polymer etching. Digital tools bring different characters of mark to the drawings; crisp pixelated lines and flat areas of tone. Photo etching is a process in which the digital and hand-made mark can be integrated, in response to the digitally captured photo of outdoor life. Becky is interested in the visual remembering of experiences that on reflection appear to have been very beautiful, sensational and poetic and how with each reconstruction these moments become more invented.
