In a deliciously funny screen adaptation of the acerbic Noel Coward play, the 20s have roared, the 30s have yet to swing, and John Whittaker, a posh young Englishman has met a glamorous and brash American girl, Larita, and married her impetuously, much to the disgust of his snobbish mother (Scott Thomas). When the couple return to the family home after the honeymoon Mrs Whitaker decides to do everything in her power to make the young American feel out of place but Larita realises that two can play that game and mother and daughter-in-law embark on a battle of wills. Easy on the eye, bright and breezy, sparkling performances, what’s not to like about this wonderfully funny film?
