Dir: Clint Eastwood (2008) US 2hrs 21 mins.
Cast: Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich

Eastwood’s dark drama is based on a true story. 1928 Los Angeles – single mother Christine Collins (Jolie) returns home from work to find her son is missing. Several agonising months later he is found and returned to her by the police. Collins does not believe the boy is hers, but when she points this out to the LAPD, her nightmare only gets worse. In the meantime other children are missing. Beautifully played throughout, set against a big, bold backdrop that might be the director’s most ambitious yet, the film displays all the clear-eyed intelligence and subtle understatement we’ve come to expect from Eastwood’s movies.
“A compelling, adult period thriller, with an Oscar-assured performance from Angelina Jolie” Empire
